Route of Andrews cortege set

The casket bearing the remains of fire chief Steve Andrews will be borne by a fire truck Friday morning for visits to the two fire stations and church where he devoted so much of his time. His widow, Hope Andrews, and son, Luke Andrews, will ride in the fire engine that will leave Williams Funeral Home at 8:15 a.m. It will drive by the Barnesville fire station then travel to the the main LCFD station on Hwy. 36 West where it will pull through the back door and out the front door for one last response. The engine will make its way to the Fine Arts Center for the 10 a.m. funeral service, circling Andrews’ home church, Calvary Baptist, one last time. Burial with full honors will follow the service in Greenwood Cemetery. Interim fire chief Douglas Matthews said mourners are encouraged to observe the cortege at the two fire stations and at Calvary Baptist. Firefighters from multiple counties will join in the final tribute to the chief. Others will volunteer their time to man local fire stations and respond to calls so local firefighters can pay their last respects to Andrews who died early Monday of pancreatic cancer.
