Royce Alfred Turner

Dr. Royce Alfred Turner, age 71, of Lamar County passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 in an Atlanta healthcare facility. A native of Coweta County, he was the son of the late Mr. Charles Alfred Turner and the late Mrs. Norma Frances Turner. Dr. Turner was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Ray Turner. He was a retired educator, with his last position being the vice president of curriculum and instruction for Griffin Technical College. After retirement, Dr. Turner served as a consultant for the state of Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. Dr. Turner was a Mason, and a member of Pinta Lodge 88 F&AM in Barnesville and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Barnesville. He was a former Lamar County commissioner, having served two terms, and was the last superintendent of Gordon Military High School. Dr. Turner was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Ann Turner of Barnesville; children, Danny Royce (and Sonya) Turner and their children Vanna (and John) Raybold, Christopher, Grant and Hayley; and Donna Ann (and Tommy) Adcox, and their child Tara Adcox. A memorial service for Dr. Royce Turner will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Taylor officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 from 10 a.m. until the service hour. The family has asked, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pinta Lodge 88 F&AM, 1173 Hwy. 18 W., Barnesville, Ga., 30204.
