With the forecast still calling for showers all day over Middle Georgia hundreds of runners, joggers, hobbyists, walkers and cheering sections rallied at Summers Field by 8:00 a.m. for the annual Buggython Road Race.The Buggython benefits local school athletics and is sponsored by local businesses. Included were a 5K, 10K and fun walk.Crossing the finish line first in the 5K with a time of 19:31 was Jeff Keady. Following just behind him was Chris Trivette and Brent Kilby.The Masters (50+) overall 5K winner was David Williams.With an impressive time of 22:03 the 5K overall winner medal was awarded to Allison Mangham of Pike County. Just behind her was Lesley Gilreath and rounding out the top three was Jenna Dunaway. The 5K masters winner for ladies was Andrea Berger.As the clock approached 39 minutes Allen O’neal of Barnesville – running the 10K – came into sight and crossed the line with a time of 39:10. Less than 5 minutes behind him with a time of 44:58 was Stacie Bulloch of Warm Springs, Georgia with a time of 44:58 for the 10K.The race was well attended as fans gathered on sidewalks and in front of private homes along the race route. Traffic support was lent by Barnesville Police Department and the City of Barnesville.
