Voters in Lamar’s District 3 go to the polls Tuesday to cast ballots in the race for the Republican nomination for the county commission.The polling place at the Lamar Service Center (old Barnesville Academy gym) will be open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.The runoff features Van Baker and Julia Heidbrink. In the July 31 general primary, Baker took 46.69% of the vote while Heidbrink edged out the third candidate in the race, Kelvin Chute, by 12 votes.The winner will face Democrat Aaron Brown in the November general election to decide who will replace current commissioner Jimmy Hearn who did not seek reelection.The race drew only tepid interest from advance voters. Only 50 took advantage of the week-long advance voting period, according to elections superintendent Anita Reid. Reid also mailed out 20 absentee ballots of which eight had been returned Monday morning.Realtime election results will be available at barnesville.com.
