Saturday is the last opportunity for needy families to apply for Christmas gift help from the Empty Stocking Fund. Applications will be accepted from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Barnesville fire station.
“We have 198 children from 100 families and expect more. With the government shutdown and the high probability of losing SNAP/EBT funds, families are calling me daily. Many felt like they were okay to cover Christmas but now they are having to step back and use that money for food,” ESF chair Vicki Forsyth said last week.
ESF is teaming up with Donavan’s Dream to provide food boxes along with toys this year.
Those willing to help can drop of toys and monetary donations at the fire station. Donations are also being accepted at United Bank. “Every little bit will help these families,” Forsyth said.
Fundraising events are set for Nov. 22 at Buggytown Auction at 4 p.m. and Dec. 11 at United Bank from 5-7 p.m.
