Scholarship fund established in honor of Lillian Abbott Hurt

Family members have established a scholarship fund at Gordon State College in honor of Lillian Abbott Hurt, a native of Barnesville. An initial donation of $10,000 was made to the Gordon State College Foundation in order to establish the fund. Perpetual scholarships require funds of $25,000 and donations are sought. The initial fund donation was made by her husband, James T. Hurt; her son, Kenneth S. Hurt; her daughter and family, Susan, Tim and Mia King. Kenneth Hurt credited GSC Foundation member Lewis Robinson, whom he described as a ‘life long friend and mentor’, for suggesting the scholarship. Lillian Abbott Hurt graduated from Gordon in 1949. The daughter of Andrew Jackson Abbott and Mittie Barksdale Abbott, she died at her Hampton home on April 23, 2013.
