School board to hold line on millage rate

By Sherri Ellington At its June 9 meeting, the board of education voted to advertise a $18,132,396 million budget for the 2009-10 school year. After freezing local salaries for all employees ‘“  including superintendent Dr. Bill Truby and other administrators ‘“  the budget came in $538,433 out of balance. This amount will be taken from the $6.2 million reserve fund. ”There will be no millage increase,” said Dr. Truby. “We saved $220,000 through the freezes or the deficit could have been close to $700,000. We improved a lot to get to this point. We started out $1.6 million in the red.” Board member Ron Smith said the beginning deficit was $2.35 million.
