School bus involved in collision

A Lamar County school bus was involved in a serious collision Friday afternoon at the intersection of Hwy. 36 West and McCollum Rd., snarling traffic in the area. Witnesses reported the bus was traveling west on Hwy. 36 and missed a left turn onto McCollum. The driver backed up and, when reattempting the turn, pulled into the path of a compact pickup truck traveling east. The bus driver was not injured. There were no children on the bus. The male driver of the pickup was knocked unconscious for a time and was transported to an area hospital. A small female child in the truck was also transported as a precaution. An adult female in the truck was uninjured. None of the injuries was thought to be life-threatening. School superintendent Dr. Bill Truby was on the scene of the accident which was being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol in addition to Lamar deputies
