The Lamar County school system is lowering its millage rate by a ful mill from 16.101 last year to 15.101 this year. The surge in home building home combined with increased property values will result in higher collections for the system.
Tax bills should be lower than the estimates on reassessment notices earlier this year.
Even with all the growth, the lowering of the millage rate will result in a projected shortfall of $380,000 which will be deducted from the system’s fund balance.
The full notice from school superintendent Dr. Jute Wilson is published in the 8.9.22 print edition of The Herald Gazette.
