Senior Blane Parker leads the Trojans to a key region win over the Callaway Cavaliers at LaGrange on Tuesday

The Trojans traveled to LaGrange on Tuesday, 4/14, on a windy and chilly afternoon for a key region contest with the Callaway Cavaliers. Going into the game, both teams were deadlocked in 3rd place in Region 5-AA with identical 5-3 region records. One team would escape with sole possession of 3rd place behind region leaders Pike & Heard Counties and, that team would be the Lamar Co. Trojans, as they got the 4-2 win over the Cavaliers in a hard fought contest. The Trojans got 1-run in the top of the first inning, only to see Callaway come back and score 2 in the bottom half of the inning. Neither team would score another run in the game, until the Trojans pushed across a single run in the 5th inning to notch the score at 2-all. The score remained deadlocked through the 6th inning, but the Trojans stepped-up their game in the top of the 7th, to push 2-insurance runs across the plate to take the lead at 4-2. Callaway failed to score in the bottom half of the 7th, and the Trojan coaches and fans breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that the trip home to Barnesville would not be nearly as long. Defensively, the Trojans played much better than they had in the last few games leading up to this one, as they committed no-defensive-errors in this contest. However, the coaches could not have been pleased with several baserunning blunders that were made by the Trojans, while they were on the sacks – some of which came in critical situations. Parker went the distance on the mound to record the win, while striking out 11 Callaway hitters, allowing only 3-hits and, only issuing 3-bases on balls. Offensively, Parker led the Trojans at the plate on the afternoon with 3-hits, one of which was a textbook bunt single down the 3rd baseline, that could not be fielded by a Callaway defensive player. Senior Calvin Adams, also, chipped-in with 3-hits, as well. Other Trojans with good days at the plate were Trent Nix (2), Michael Sneed (2), T.J. English (1), and Eric Cooper (1) hits a piece for a total of 12 in the game. The Trojans have a busy week ahead, as they will begin a 5-game home stand on Thursday, 4/16, at Aldora Field, when Region 3-AAA Washington Co. comes calling for a 5:30 p.m. contest. Then on Friday, Region 5-AA Opponent Spencer out of Columbus, Ga. will visit, followed by another game with the Callaway Cavaliers on Saturday, 4/18, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Lamar Co. 4-12-0 Callaway 2-3-0
