Lamar County solidified its hold on third place in Region 5AA baseball with a 14-1 win over Heard County in Franklin Friday and can clinch at least that as they play their final region home games of the season today.It is senior night and all of the Diamond Trojan seniors will be recognized between games of the scheduled doubleheader against Jordan which gets underway with game one at five o’clock.It is also Lamar County Recreation night and all participants in this spring’s softball, tee ball and baseball leagues are invited to come out and wear full uniform for free admission into Aldora Field. The players will also be allowed to go onto the playing field and take their positions along with the Trojan players when they are introduced for game two.Lamar dropped a 3-2 non-region contest to AAA Washington County here last night. It was the fifth one run loss this season who stand at 16-8 overall and 10-4 in 5AA including two forfeit wins over Spencer who suspended their baseball program for the season due to lack of participation.The Diamond Trojans are not mathematically out of the running to finish second in the region but they would have to sweep tonight’s twinbill and have Callaway lose to Crawford County today and Jordan on Friday.Meanwhile at Gordon…The Gordon College Highlander baseball team will host Young Harris this weekend for a best of three GJCAA tournament series. The Highlanders (34-20) finished third in the regular season in Region XVII and will host the fifth seeded Mountain Lions (39-13) who they took two of three from on the road earlier this season.Over the weekend, Gordon swept a three game series from Andrew and split a non-conference doubleheader with Cleveland State in Tennessee on Monday.Dates and times for this weekend’s series have yet to be determined.
