Serial bank robber busted

The Monroe County Reporter is reporting that serial bank robber Don Wayne Johnson, Jr. has been arrested. Here is the MCR account: The man suspected of robbing Piedmont Community Bank in Forsyth on Monday is behind bars. Griffin police apprehended Don Wayne Johnston Jr., 28, on Friday afternoon in Griffin. More details about his arrest are expected this evening. Johnston is accused of robbing three banks in Griffin, Brunswick and Forsyth over the last two weeks. At Piedmont bank, spokesman David Asbell of the Forsyth Police Department says the bank robber slipped a note to the teller demanding money and then got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. Only bank employees were there at the time, said Asbell. He fled on foot and was thought to be in the Juliette Road area but was never found. Griffin police say Johnston also robbed the United Bank in Griffin on Jan. 21 and the Suntrust in Brunswick on Jan. 25. Forsyth had gone years without a bank robbery but has now had two in the past year. On March 4 of last year, a Florida man was captured and charged with robbing the Forsyth BB&T and then a Barnesville bank earlier in the day.
