In response to a petition presented to the school board requesting school tax relief for senior citizens, superintendent Dr. Bill Truby provided a sobering statistic on the tax burden placed on Lamar County property owners to fund education locally. Truby told Jim Doggett, who presented the petition, that 70 years of taxes on a $100,000 home are required to educate one child here.
