Sherman replaces Ingle as GSC’s head basketball coach

By Ken K. Green After renewing the Highlander basketball program seven years ago, head coach Israel Ingle is leaving his post at Gordon State College to coach at Timpanogos High School in Orem, Utah. He will be replaced at Gordon by first year Highlander assistant Garrett Sherman. Under coach Izzy, Gordon accumulated 128 wins and 92 losses, going 26-9 in 2011-12 to win the NJCAA Region 17 championship and the NJCAA District 13 championship and play in the NJCAA national tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. Ingle was named the NJCAA District 13 Coach of the Year for his efforts and is the youngest coach in Georgia Junior College history to reach 100 career wins as a head coach. His successor, coach Sherman came to Gordon after successfully building the men’s and women’s basketball programs at Allegany College of Maryland. Coach Sherman served as the head women’s basketball coach from 2008-11 and an assistant men’s coach from 2006-11. As the head women’s basketball coach at Allegany, Sherman was two time District J, two time Region XX and two time Maryland Coach of LC Family Connection Collaborative: Thursday, June 12, 9 a.m., E.P. Roberts Center.
