Shots fired; alleged shooters crash car

More wanton violence erupted in Barnesville today when shots were fired in the area of Sims Street, Johnstonville Road and Crawford Road. No one was hit by the gunfire but two people were injured in a subsequent car crash in which a vehicle overturned. Initial reports indicate the driver of the overturned car, Rodriquez Foster, 28, of Hickory Street, was riding in a vehicle with a pregnant 18-year-old female when they encountered a vehicle on North College St. driven by another man with affections for the female who was bearing the child of one of the men. The two men had a verbal altercation and Foster fled toward Johnstonville Road. Foster allegedly began firing at the following vehicle. While he was leaning out the window to get a good sight picture, his car clipped a tree and overturned, pinning his arm, gun and upper torso under the car. Police and several bystanders lifted the car off Foster and freed him. He and the unidentified female were life-flighted for medical treatment. Foster’s last shot hit a Barnesville city limit sign. Foster is no stranger to local law enforcement. He was arrested on drug charges just a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, more and more citizens are questioning whether or not they are safe on the streets of Barnesville-Lamar County after a serious uptick in violent crime in recent months.
