Shots fired during robbery close Spalding schools

On Thursday October 2, 2014, The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of a person who had been robbed at gun point and shots were fired at the victim as he ran from the area of Tyus Park located on Cowan Road Griffin, Georgia, the victim was not injured. Deputies learned the 911 call came from the Cowan Road Elementary School which the victim ran to after the robbery. Deputies sealed the area off and locked all school down in the area as a precaution. The investigation further revealed that the suspect described as a black male, early twenties, wearing a brown coat with brown pants fled the area running through the park in a North West direction. K-9 dogs were able to track the suspect movements to the area of King Richards Place located off of West Moreland Road Griffin, Georgia. The search for the suspect was called off around 9:00 a.m. and the schools in the area went back to normal activities.
