Sidney Cheatham Sr.

Mr. Sidney Franklin Cheatham Sr., age 95, of 888 Thomaston St., Barnesville, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 in Washington County Regional Medical Center Extended Care Facility. Mr. Cheatham was born on April 17, 1918 in Macon, Ga., as the son of the late Mr. Rufus Sidney Cheatham and the late Grace Tyner Cheatham. He was a graduate of Gordon Military College. Mr. Cheatham retired as a salesman with B.F. Goodrich Tire Company in 1979. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville and served on its board of trustees. He was a member and past president of The Kiwanis Club of Barnesville and was chairman of the board for the Barnesville-Lamar County Library for over 30 years. Mr. Cheatham was the chairman of the board of directors of the Department of Family and Children Services for Lamar County. He was a charter member of the Deer Trail Country Club and an active community servant in Lamar County. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.  Survivors include his wife, Bessie Elaine Lifsey Cheatham of Barnesville; his son, Sidney F. Cheatham Jr. (and his wife Peggie) of Sandersville; his daughter, Bettilaine Cheatham Wolfe (and her husband Tom) of Wake Forest, N.C.; five grandchildren, Lauren Densmore, Amy Thomas, Jessica Meekes, Erin Anderson and Reid Cheatham; 13 great-grandchildren, Christian Densmore, Hayden Densmore, Grace Densmore, Taylor Meekes, Jackson Meekes, Macon Thomas, Molly Grace Thomas, Sydney Anderson, Leila Anderson, Margaret Scott Anderson, Thomas Cheatham, Walker Cheatham, and John Carlisle Cheatham; and a brother, Ralph Tyner Cheatham (and his wife, Sis) of Vero Beach, Fla.  Funeral services for Mr. Sidney Franklin Cheatham Sr. will be conducted Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville with the Rev. Dana Overton-Garrett and Mr. Walter Geiger officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Reid Cheatham, Scott Meekes, Paul Densmore, Ty Thomas, Britt Lifsey, Randy Long, Tim Dix and Lester Lifsey. The Cheatham family will greet friends at the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville on Tuesday, July 16, from 1 p.m. until the service hour.  In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to First United Methodist Church of Barnesville, 375 Thomaston St., or the Barnesville-Lamar County Library, 401 Thomaston St., Barnesville, 30204.
