Smarter than average? Bear moves into B’ville

Hey, hey, Boo Boo, residents along Pine Street and Memorial and Redbud drives in Barnesville are urged to be extra vigilant after a large black bear was spotted running in a creek in the area. Capt. Al Moltrum said the first report came in at 1:40 a.m. Thursday. Officers located the bear in the creek along Memorial Drive and it ran into the woodline on Redbud. DNR ranger Keith Page said bears are migrating during this time of year and this one should move on from the area in a few days. Residents are urged not to leave food or trash outside. Black bears are generally docile but can be dangerous if cornered. If you should encounter the bear, keep your distance, wave your arms and make loud noises. Page says this should spook the bear. If you spot the critter, call 911.
