Smith demands Waller’s resignation

Days after being cleared of charges of allegedly taping a riot control grenade to an inmate’s neck, former LCSO captain Grier T. Smith is calling for sheriff Larry Waller to step down. ”This county is my home. I’ve been in public safety more than 10 years,” said Smith. “I don’t want to sue the county because the taxpayers will suffer in the end. Rather than that, I’ll accept Larry Waller’s immediate and unconditional resignation.” If Waller refuses to do so by July 31, Smith said he will sue “at potentially the cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars to the county.” Should he win, he said, after attorney’s fees he will give the remaining money back to the community in the form of donations to 15 different local charities.
