Smith trial underway

The murder trial of Ronald Smith got well under way this morning, with both sides giving their opening arguments and the state calling the first of a long list of witnesses. Jurors were instructed not to read this week’s Herald-Gazette until the trial is over. Using a PowerPoint presentation, assistant district attorney Scott Johnson described the state’s version of how the shooting of Charles Adams took place. Defense attorney Wanda Johnson announced her intent to not question many of the law enforcement witnesses called to the stand to discuss evidence. She also hinted that Smith may take the stand in his own defense. At lunch break, the District Attorney’s office had called seven witnesses including neighbor Tonya Harris and her son Micah Harris, 12. More details as the court case continues.
