School superintendents from Lamar, Pike, Spalding and Upson counties met Monday to plot strategy for school closings with one to three inches of snow and/or ice in the local weather forecast.UPDATE @ 2:15 p.m.: Lamar schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday for students. Eleven and 12 month employees should report Tuesday morning.St. George’s Episcopal School in Milner will be open Tuesday but closed Wednesday.Gordon State College will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.Southern Crescent Technical College has closed all locations Tuesday and Wednesday.UPDATE @ 1 p.m. Monday: Current models show for wintry mix to arrive here about 1 p.m. Tuesday, changing over to snow, possibly heavy, at 7 p.m. The snow could last through 4 a.m. Wednesday but likely will taper off about 1 a.m.Current models show this area remaining in the snow-only zone but considerable icing south of here is a distinct threat. Depending on when moisture arrives to mix with freezing air, icing could occur here.The area from Savannah to Myrtle Beach could get 7-9 inches of ice.Snow showers could arrive here as early as noon Tuesday. The snow should move out by noon Wednesday.Winter storm models should clarify as the day goes on and forecasts tonight should be considerably more accurate. Be safe. Gas up your four-wheel drive vehicles and generators. Stock up on food staples.
