By Walter GeigerThe annual Soap Game scrimmage Friday at Trojan Field will give local fans their first opportunity to see the 2014 football team in action.Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. Admission is a donation of laundry detergent or similar items for use laundering practice and game uniforms and other gear.First year head coach Jamie Abrams is breaking in three new staff members.Jeff Sloan came here from South Paulding High School and is working with running backs and linebackers. Brad Harber, the quarterbacks coach, came from East Laurens High School.The third newcomer, Alan Shurling, is coaching tackles. He is a first year coach who just ended his playing career at Central Missouri.The other coaches are holdovers from Franklin Stephens’ staff.David Robertson is special teams coordinator and will work with wide receivers and ponies. Mike Foster is working with the defensive linemen and tight ends.Veteran David Strobel is coaching fullbacks while Scott Hammock is working with centers and guards along with Ron Fletcher.At presstime, Abrams and his staff had not finalized the format for Friday’s scrimmage but the players out for practice will be divided in some manner.’All our kids are showing up and working hard. We are experiencing some growing pains at some positions but that is to be expected this early in the year,’ Abrams concluded.
