Soccer, baseball action on tap today

It’s spring break for the Lamar County school system but there’s action on the soccer field and baseball diamond today for the Trojans and Lady Trojans.Lamar will host Manchester for soccer matches at Trojan Field beginning with the girls match this afternoon at 5:30 p.m. Lamar swept Manchester there a few weeks ago with the Lady Trojans winning 8-0 while the Trojans won 5-0.The Diamond Trojans put their modest three game winning streak on the line against Region 5AA’s top team, Pike County. Lamar is 7-5 overall and 4-2 in region play while the Pirates have won ten straight, including a 10-0 win over the Trojans in Zebulon earlier, and are 10-3 overall, 8-0 in 5AA. First pitch is scheduled for six o’clock at Aldora Field.There’s sports action on the Gordon College campus today as well as the Lady Highlanders host Cleveland State for a two o’clock fast pitch softball doubleheader while the Highlanders entertain Chattanooga State in a twinbill also set for 2 p.m.The Gordon ladies are 20-14 for the season while the baseball team is 22-13 on the year having won eight straight.
