Soccer teams roll; Diamond Trojans fall

Lamar County swept a pair of matches from Manchester in high school soccer action at Trojan Field last night, both teams winning 9-0. The Lady Trojans and Trojans will host Jones County for varsity soccer Thursday beginning with the girls’ match at 5:30 p.m. The junior varsity soccer teams have home matches today against Mary Persons beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Trojan Field. Pike County took advantage of several Lamar County miscues scoring six unearned runs en route to an 8-1 win over the Diamond Trojans at Aldora Field. Lamar, now 7-6 for the season, will host Monticello Thursday at six o’clock. The JV Diamond Trojans are in action today as they host at 4:30 p.m. A walk-off grand slam homer gave Gordon an 8-4 win in a game that featured a triple play by the Highlanders opponent, Chattanooga State. The slam set the momentum for game two of the twinbill as the Highlanders routed the Tigers 16-6 for the sweep. Gordon, now 24-13, are on the road this weekend for a three game conference series against nationally ranked powerhouse Young Harris. The Lady Highlanders split their doubleheader with Cleveland State dropping game one 3-2 before taking game two 2-1. Gordon, now 19-15, is off for the Easter break and returns to action Thursday, April 8 with a conference doubleheader against Darton at home.
