Some roads closed, others a mess; more rain on the way

If mud bogging is one of your favorite pastimes, you are in the right place for action. Two paved roads in Lamar County remain closed due to flood damage and several dirt roads are also on the closed list. James Rigdon of Lamar County public works reported at 12:30 p.m. Monday that Industrial Drive and Yancey Road remain closed due to washouts. Matbeth and Oliver roads, both unpaved, are also closed due to washouts. All the dirt roads in the county are marginal but Turner Bridge and Perdue roads are the worst of those. ”We tried closing them but people just move the barrels and go around them,” Rigdon said. More rain is on the way and sheriff Brad White and fire chief Steve Andrews are casting wary eyes on more storms headed our way. More in the 12.29.15 print edition of The Herald Gazette.
