Spalding County Sheriff Dee Stewart died early Sunday morning at the Atlanta Medical Center. He had been in a medically induced coma after being critically injured when the truck he was driving pulled into the path of a Ford Explorer driven by his grandson and Spalding County deputy, 29-year-old Chad Gasaway, who had worked briefly as a jailer under the administration of former Lamar County sheriff Joe Buice. He was reportedly well liked and friendly to other staff members here.
