SPLOST: Will it pass?

The elected and appointed bodies governing Lamar County and its municipalities unanimously agreed to call a SPLOST referendum at an intergovernmental meeting November 17. The vote to extend the special local option sales tax will be held on March 15, 2011. There are serious concerns among elected officials at all levels the SPLOST vote will fail. Those concerns are legitimated by the current uproar over high ad valorem taxes, the recent advent of fire and EMS fees and multiple errors in billing them out and the general perception of property owners that their tax money is being wasted. The SPLOST, if approved by voters, is expected to raise a minimum of $9,564,519. Do you think it will pass? Why or why not?
