Spooktacular Halloween events abound

By Sherri Ellington As Halloween nears, bringing with it the traditional Trick or Treat on Thomaston and neighboring streets, several local events are kicking off this weekend in the wake of the annual Dolly Goodpuppy Barks and Boos fundraiser held last Saturday. Lamar County Senior Center will hold its Halloween Mash on Friday, Oct. 26, from 5-7 p.m. Attendees should bring finger food. A show will be presented by Buggytown Players and the Senior Center Fun Band. Pegasus Riding School will hold its 28th annual Halloween Horse Show Saturday, Oct. 27. The hunter/jumper show will have special Halloween classes including costume for mounted and unmounted children, a mounted treasure hunt and classes for wicked witches. The event is free to spectators. Exhibitors with horses may enter online at pegride2000.com. The Lamar County Activity Center Fall Festival will also be held Saturday from 2-6 p.m. It will have a haunted house, face painting, cake walk, family photos, carnival cotton candy, candy apples, funnel cakes and three-on-three basketball tournament. The Not So Spooky Halloween Fest is set at The Rock Ranch. At 7:30 p.m. families can trick or treat at ranch stations including Tiny Town. The corn maze will run with flashlights only from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will be pumpkin carving and painting, a costume parade and a costume contest. Pets can dress up too. This is the only day pets are allowed in The Rock Ranch. There will be a weird science lab, a professional DJ, emcee games and host contests and Tommy Johns, a professional magician. When it comes to the big day itself, Wednesday, Oct. 31, trick or treaters can literally walk through Barnesville trick or treating and go from one church Trunk or Treat to another. Barnesville First Baptist will hold its event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. while Barnesville Nazarene Church will offer up its trunkfuls of goodies and free hot dogs and chili from 6-9 p.m. A little further up the road ‘“ the four lane, in fact ‘“ Friendship Church will hold its Trunk or Treat from 6:30-8 p.m. There will be hot dogs, hot chocolate, candy and decorations. The event will be inside the fellowship hall in case of rain.
