The #6 Lamar County Trojans dominated the #10 Jasper County Hurricanes 20-7 Friday night in Monticello to win the Region 4 Class A, Div. 1 football championship. The Trojans posted an undefeated regular season record for the first time since 2013. That team went to the state title game and lost.
The Trojan defense controlled the ‘Cane attack all night. Jasper County did not sniff the end zone until there was just 3:34 left in the contest and by then it was too late.
The game was not as close as the score indicted. LC was first and goal at the ‘Cane four early in the second half and could not score.
Lamar is off this week. They will host a first round state playoff game Nov. 14. We should know the opponent by Sunday night.
