SRE crew helping restore power in north Georgia

A five-man crew left this morning to help restore power to more than 7000 members at Habersham EMC in Clarkesville, GA after last night’s ice storm. Southern Rivers Energy was in their shoes this time last year when approximately 9000 members lost power at the peak of the outage caused by Winter Storm Pax. Thanks to one of the guiding cooperative principles, Cooperation among Cooperatives, SRE received additional crews from seven other electric membership cooperatives to help restore power in less than three days. After confirming SRE’s territory is in the clear, crews were ready to return the favor today. Habersham EMC serves over 25,200 members across six counties in North Georgia. ’We are proud of our linemen and we are thankful for their families and their support which allows our men to focus on the dangerous work they do to ensure all the modern day comforts we take for granted. Our thoughts are with all the utilities working hard to restore power for their consumers in these harsh conditions,’ said President/CEO, Michael McMillan.
