SRE storm outage update

Southern Rivers Energy crews are continuing restoration efforts with the help of additional crews from Harper’s Tree Service, Snapping Shoals EMC, Sumter EMC and Walton EMC. The weather center confirmed that the severe weather system that ripped through Meriwether county produced an EF-2 tornado packing winds up to 120 mph that touched down in Pike county Monday night. The system then continued a path of straight line winds, heavy rain and lightning through Lamar, Spalding and Monroe counties. The majority of our service was directly in this path and the damage to the system is severe. Crews have been spread out from Meriwether county all the way down to Crawford and Bibb trying to restore power since Monday night. During the peak of the outage numbers reached over 8000 but have been reduced to a little over 1000 as of Wednesday morning. Everyone is working diligently to get power restored as quickly and safely as possible. The phone lines are open but due to the volume of calls coming in, members may still experience some busy signals. We understand the frustration in not being able to get through to a live person but our automated system can handle over 200 calls per hour versus around 23 calls per hour with live operators. Rest assured that we are aware of the outages and you can see live outage map using http://68.208.12.169:82 and use the zoom tool in the top left corner for a more detailed view with street names. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during restoration efforts. Please keep in mind that restoring power, especially after severe weather systems like the tornado that came through Monday night, is not a quick and easy process. Removing fallen trees, replacing broken poles and completely rebuilding entire lines take time and require precision and extreme caution. There is a systematic approach to restoring power efficiently and safely. You can see a diagram of the process here: http://southernriversenergy.com/Storm%20Center/4777_Restore_Power.pdf
