Southern Rivers Energy employee Bobby Ferris was recognized for his efforts to support economic development and youth leadership programs in the area. Director of marketing and energy services at Southern Rivers since 2001, Ferris was named Volunteer Employee of the Year and presented the Georgia EMC 2013 Community Service and Volunteerism Award.Deeply involved in Pike County by serving with the chamber of commerce as a board member and past chair, Pike schools as career, technical and agricultural education advisory member, Leadership Pike board member and the Pike Development Authority as an ex-officio board member, Ferris has served the community and supported development in a number of ways. In addition to his work in economic development, Ferris is a staunch supporter of youth leadership programs in local schools. He is active in agricultural education and the Georgia FFA Foundation. For the past 10 years, Ferris has served on the Georgia FFA Foundation board and was recently elected vice president.A regular volunteer at FFA fundraisers, the state FFA convention and all FFA events, Ferris also has guided the board on making wise financial decisions with funds raised for the 35,000 FFA students in Georgia, ensuring they will be supported through scholarships for years to come.The purpose of the Georgia EMC Community Service and Volunteerism Award is to spotlight outstanding efforts and initiatives of EMC management, directors and employees who work to build stronger communities and encourage other EMCs in the state to give as well.Ferris was presented the award during Georgia EMC’s annual meeting on Nov. 11 in Augusta. A donation in his name will be made to a charity of his choice.
