Stanford Parker, Sr.

Mr. Stanford Parker, Sr., 83, of Thomaston and formerly of Barnesville, died Thursday, August 13th, 2015 at the Reliance Healthcare and Hospice in Griffin. Mr. Parker was born on November 16th, 1931 in Butler, a son of the late Robert L. Parker and Myrtle B. Parker.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Parker worked for the Peerless Division of Thomaston Mills and was later employed by the General Tire Company until his retirement.  He attended Mud Bridge Baptist Church. Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Frances Maudel Bethune Parker; two sons, Stanford (Diann) Parker, Jr., and Robert Thomas (Cathy) Parker, both of Thomaston; two sisters, Catherine Sapp of Thomaston and Betty Jean (Jerry) Herndon of Douglasville; three brothers, Hubert Parker of Thomaston, Newton (Diane) Parker of Augusta and T. J. Parker of LaGrange; four grandchildren, Jonathon Edward Parker of Smyrna, Susan Parker of Murphysboro, TN, Dana (Brandon) Kent of Thomaston and Nathaniel Parker of Corpus Christi, TX; and six great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a step-grandchild, Joshua Thomas Morgan. Funeral services for Mr. Parker were held on Saturday, August 15th, 2015 in the Chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim South officiating.  Burial with military honors was in Upson Memorial Gardens.
