Judge Crumbley granted a motion by defense attorney Johnnie Caldwell that the state make available all dogs seized from the Matthews property earlier this year for exams by a veterinarian or veterinarians at the expense of the defendants. Special prosecutor Jessica Rock contends the dogs will not be in the same state as they were when removed from Sweet Basil Kennels March 13-14. Judge Wilson is scheduled to take up the motion for reconsideration in a court session set for June 4 at 9 a.m. For much more on this story, see the 5.21.19 print edition of The Herald Gazette.
