Stephens a frontrunner at Camden

The head football coaching vacancy at Camden County high is reportedly attracting a lot of attention with about 160 applicants for the plum job in Kingsland. A hiring decision at Camden is expected this week The rumored favorites for the job include Lamar County’s Franklin Stephens, who has been listed as a possible replacement since Feb. 20; Savannah Christian’s Donald Crumbly and Creekview’s Terry Crowder. Reports vary whether Stephens is in the top three or top 10 of the contenders. The school has allegedly had to install two fax machines to meet the demand as applicants hail from Georgia and six other states for Jeff Herron’s old job. However, Camden County school officials could confirm only that interviews were being conducted on Friday, March 8, citing personnel confidentiality issues related to the Georgia Open Records Act. Coach Stephens did not answer phone calls seeking comment.
