Stone wins, Devane ousted; Samples, Weldon win in Milner

Barnesville will have a new city council member effective Jan. 1, 2014 as Larry Whitworth won a narrow decision over incumbent Neal Devane in the Ward 4 race. In Ward 5, incumbent Mark Stone rolled to an easy win over challenger T.J. Imberger. Only 341 of the 1015 city voters eligible to cast ballots in the two races bothered to go to the polls for a turnout of 33.6%. The school board initiative to offer property tax breaks for senior citizens passed easily. Turnout for the referendum was just over 13%, according to preliminary figures.
