Widespread severe storms spawned by a cold front moving through the area blasted Lamar County just after 8 p.m. Sunday with high winds, lightning, heavy rain and hail. At 8;35 p.m., Southern Rivers Energy was reporting 2860 members without power – 1056 of them in Lamar. Stay vigilant. Heavy rain falling on already saturated ground will likely cause flooding.
