Summers Field Park dedicated

A large crowd was on hand for the dedication of Summers Field Park in Barnesville Monday morning. Music was provided by the LCHS band. Rev. Waylon Knight of West Mount Sinai Baptist Church gave the invocation. The BPD/LCSO Color Guard raised the flag and VFW Post commander Junior Hamrick led the Pledge of Allegiance. Tim Turner sang the National Anthem. Former mayor and park committee member Jimmy Matthews introduced dignitaries and those who worked on the park project. Mayor Peter Banks gave the welcome and introduced DOT board member Sam Wellborn who was instrumental in getting a $1.5 million transportation enhancement grant to fund the construction of the park. Rev. Dana Overton Garrett of First United Methodist Church gave the dedicatory prayer. After closing remarks by Banks, the ribbon was cut.
