Sumner pleads not guilty; dodges news media again

By Walter Geiger The Lamar County woman charged with striking and killing a Gordon State College student with her car, fleeing the scene and hiding the vehicle entered not guilty pleas in Lamar superior court last week. The case of Bobby Jo Sumner was a late addition to the May 14 criminal calendar. She somehow arranged a pre-arraignment which allowed her to dodge open court and media scrutiny. She is charged with first degree vehicular homicide and hit and run. She allegedly struck and killed Alexandra Noelle Desir, 20, who was walking from her dorm to work at Huddle House when she was hit just before midnight on July 29, 2013. In nearly two years, Sumner has yet to appear in open court. Her current attorney of record is Jennifer Ammons.
