UPDATE: LC fell to Vidalia in a 4-3 thriller. LC led 2-1 at the half but a long stoppage for fan misbehavior cost the Lady Trojans momentum early in the second half and Vidalia surged thereafter. The LC Lady Trojans will host an Elite 8 round soccer playoff match this evening featuring two teams ranked in top 4 of the eurosports.com Class AA poll. First touch is set for 6 p.m. at Trojan Field. Tickets are $7. #4 LC will battle the #2 Vidalia Indians (18-1). Vidalia fell to #1 St. Vincent’s 6-3 in Savannah April 12 for its only loss. They defeated St. Vincent’s 2-1 at home on Feb. 27. Vidalia is the #2 seed from Region 2AA. St. Vincent’s is the #1 seed from that region. The Indians advanced with a 6-0 win over Fitzgerald in Fitzgerald last week after narrowly defeating Dodge County 1-0 in the first round. A victory tonight would send LC to the final four and a match with the winner of tonight’s battle between #5 Model (16-1-1) and #7 Harlem (14-4-0) at Model. Lamar would hit the road for the semifinal in that both Harlem and Model are #1 seeds. The other two Elite 8 matches have #1 St. Vincent’s (13-5-0) at #6 Union County (12-2-1) and #10 Screven County (14-4-0) at #3 Bremen (14-5-1). Only three other area teams survived to make the Elite 8 round. The #3 Pike Lady Pirates (16-2-2) host #7 Jefferson (13-4-1) in the Class AAA tonight. In Class AAAA, the #1 Upson-Lee Knights (17-0-1) host #9 Blessed Trinity (13-3-1) while the unranked Spalding Jaguars (14-3-0) battle #4 SE Whitfield (16-4-0) on the road. Those games will be played tomorrow.
