Suspect charged with operating chop shop

On Jan. 15, the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 157 Poplar Street Griffin, Georgia and found what appeared to be a chop shop. During the execution of the search warrant, a stolen vehicle that was reported stolen on Dec. 24 was located in a barn located at the residence. Investigators arrested Michael Edward Maxon, 48, from 157 Poplar Street Griffin. Maxon has been charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property (Felony) and Operating a Chop Shop (Felony). Maxon was charged with operating a Chop Shop due to the vehicle that was recovered had been dismantled and the roof cut off.
