Suspect identified in O’Neal Cemetery truck rampage

By Walter Geiger BPD investigators have identified a 26-year-old man as the suspect in a truck rampage July 25 that damaged at least 16 graves and headstones in O’Neal Cemetery at the east end of Railroad St. in Barnesville. Police began reaching out to those with loved ones buried in O’Neal Cemetery July 27 regarding damage to graves there after a tractor-trailer driver ran his rig through the old resting palce, destroying at least 16 headstones. One grave was damaged to the point the burial vault below was visible. U.S. Xpress Trucking contacted police after a review of dash camera video and GPS tracking data from one of their trucks indicated a driver had run through the cemetery. When police arrived they discovered at least 16 damaged graves and headstones. ’They were sick when they saw the video and they contacted us and asked if we had any damaged graves near Railroad Street. We came out here and found this mess,’ Capt. Al Moltrum reported. Initial indications are the damage was intentional or the driver was impaired or both. Working with the trucking company, Capt. Moltrum and his fellow investigators identified the driver as 26-year-old Devonte Carr of North Carolina. He expects to acquire warrants for Carr this week and have him arrested and extradited here.
