Suspect in bank, store robberies arrested

Authorities made an arrest in connection with two robberies that occurred last week – one at a Zebulon gas station and the other at a Griffin bank. According to Pike County Sheriff Jimmy Thomas, an arrest was made Monday night in Pike County and charges will be announced in the near future. The suspect allegedly robbed the First National Bank office near Roses in Griffin at 12:45 p.m. Friday. He fled on foot to the area of the walking track on Airport Road where he got into a PT cruiser. The Marathon Food Mart on Highway 19 south near the Dairy Queen in Zebulon was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday night by a suspect matching the same description as the bank robber. According to unofficial reports, a large man with a black mask and gloves entered the store with a gun around 9 p.m. Nov. 20. He demanded the money out of both cash registers, shoved the money in a bag and left the scene. Investigators responded to the 911 call but were unable to apprehend the suspect. The investigators from the Pike Sheriff’s Office and Zebulon Police Department retrieved the surveillance system tape from the gas station and later served papers and arrested suspect Jamie Colquitt. According to Pike Sheriff Thomas, a suspicious man was seen Friday afternoon at the First Bank of Pike wearing a ski mask and later that afternoon, a person with the same description robbed the First National Bank in Griffin. ”Our investigators and officers from the Zebulon Police Department worked together to make an arrest in this case,” said Sheriff Thomas.
