Suspect in Jones County shooting found dead here

A suspect wanted for shooting his brother in the face Tuesday in Jones County was found dead on the side of Hwy. 36 Wednesday morning. Local authorities received a call about a suspicious vehicle on the side of Hwy. 36 at 6:05 a.m. The car, a silver 2006 Dodge Charger, was facing westbound on the eastbound shoulder of the road just past the old Barnesville water works where the animal shelter is located. Inside was the body of 54-year-old Alvin Lorenza Simmons. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to sheriff Brad White. Simmons was the subject of a lookout after allegedly shooting his brother, 52-year-old Jeffrey Simmons, in the face at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Jones County following a dispute. Jeffrey Simmons is being treated at the Macon Medical Center and is expected to survive. Alvin Simmons was described as armed with a 9 mm. handgun and dangerous. Alvin Simmons’ body was removed by a local funeral home. Lamar deputies, Barnesville police and coroner Jim Smith worked the scene. More to follow…
