Suspect in shaken baby case arrested

Coweta County investigators have arrested a man with Barnesville connections with murder in connection with the death of his infant son. Johnny Lee Edwards, 21, is cooperating with authorities. An autopsy on his infant son, Austin Edwards, was done at the state crime lab Monday, according to GBI spokesman John Bankhead. His mother, Sherry Moore, reported Edwards was not at her home when the child was injured or while awaiting arrest as Coweta County officials originally reported. He had not been in Barnesville since the funeral of Moore’s daughter, Amy Moore, who was killed in an auto accident last month. He had been released into the custody of his father Jeff Moore, a 20-year veteran of the Henry County police department, pending the autopsy results. He was arrested at 6 p.m. Monday and charged with murder.
