Suzanne Carter Dunson

Mrs. Suzanne Carter Dunson, 68, of Greenville, formerly of Spartanburg, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2009 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital.’¨ Born in Atlanta, Ga. on September 13, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. E. Worrill Carter (Lucile Brown) of Thomaston,GA. She was a cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia (1962) with a B.A in English. Later she graduated from the University of South Carolina (1975) with a Masters in Education. She taught in Dekalb County, GA (1962-1967) and Spartanburg District 7 (1969-1977) where she served two years as the director of the Gifted Program. She completed her teaching career at Spartanburg Day School (1989-1995). She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a teacher of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and as a member of the Sanctuary Guild. She also served as a volunteer in the office of Mobile Meals in Spartanburg. She was a member of the President’s Club at the University of Georgia, the Readers’ Book Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution where she held several offices. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Linton Reese Dunson and two daughters; Katharine Dunson Phipps and her husband David, and Julia Dunson Meredith and her husband Trey, both of Greenville, SC; two sisters; Patricia Edwards and her husband Joe of Barnesville, Ga. and Teresa Williams and her husband Todd of Jonesboro, Ga; an uncle, Carl Paul of Atlanta, Ga.; six nieces and nephews; and 11 great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 1.45 PM March 7, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, SC on March 7, 2009. The funeral service will follow at 2.00 PM.
