With a March 1 tax deadline looming, Milner’s tax collections are down from last year.”Tax revenue is very slowly coming in,” said city clerk Sandra Smith at the Jan. 14 meeting. “Last year we had several thousand dollars at this time. This year we do not.”Councilman George Weldon, who heads the planning and zoning committee, noted building permit revenue also is down.”There’s no building going on,” Weldon said.Meanwhile, Milner will not face any extra costs for this election year, thanks to the Lamar County board of elections taking over this year’s city elections. Seats up for grabs this year include those of Mayor Joe Bostwick, Weldon and councilman Snap Morgan.Qualifying will be at the end of August at city hall, with the board of elections taking over from there. The election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 3.
