Teen busted with gun on GSC campus

A Morrow man faces multiple charges after allegedly possessing a loaded handgun on the Gordon State College campus over the weekend. According to Gordon public information officer Tamara Boatwright, two Gordon P.D. officers on routine patrol noticed four men standing in the breezeway of a fire door of an on-campus residence hall just after midnight Sunday morning. As the officers approached, two of those in the breezeway fled on foot. Both were captured after a short chase. One officer walked the path one of the fleeing suspects had taken and found a pair of shoes and a loaded handgun. The four men, all from out of town, told officers they had come to Gordon to visit a female. Their car was searched, beer was found and all were given a field sobriety test. One man had not been drinking and was released after receiving a warning for criminal trespass. The three others were taken to the Lamar County jail where two were later released without being charged. The fourth, 17-year-old Nicholas Marquie Sanders of Morrow, was charged with possessing a weapon on school grounds, underage possession of alcohol, obstruction of an officer and carrying a weapon without a license.
