Press release from Capt. Tony Ranieri of the Spalding County sheriff’s office: A 18 year old man has been arrested by investigators for the shooting of his grandmother according to Sheriff Dee Stewart. Stewart stated that during the early morning hours of 05/20/10 deputies were called to 1979 N. Walkersmill Road reference to a person shot. Officer’s arrived and located a female who had been shot in the back area and was transported to an Atlanta Hospital. Investigators were notified and began the investigation into who shot the victim and found that information provided to them by the females grandson did not match what was found at the Crime Scene. After the investigation was complete, investigators arrested 18 year old Douglas Patrick Ward of the same address and charged him with Aggravated Assault Family Violence; Tampering with evidence; and Obstruction. The female victim has been released from the hospital and is recovering with family and Ward is being held at the Spalding County Jail according to Stewart.
