Teen shot dead in Monroe County

A 17-year-old male was shot and killed in Monroe County early Saturday morning. From Allison Selman-Willis, MCSO: The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is investigating a shooting that occurred today, Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, around 1:30 a.m. According to the preliminary investigation, Sheriff’s Office dispatch received a call about a shooting at 175 Old Rumble Road. When deputies arrived, the victim, Gabryon Walker, age 17, was being transported to the Medical Center Navicent Health with a gunshot wound. Two other teens who were present when the shooting occurred told deputies that the suspect fled on foot into some nearby woods. Deputies were able to identify the shooting suspect as 18 year old Kaleb Oliver Greene. Investigators searched for Greene throughout the night but were unable to locate him. The Georgia Department of Corrections assisted in the search using tracking canines. The shooting victim was pronounced dead at the Medical Center Navicent Health around 2:45 a.m. Greene was located several hours later at a residence in Houston County and was transported to the Monroe County Jail. Greene is being charged with involuntary manslaughter, pointing a gun at another and reckless conduct. The investigation into this incident continues and more charges may be pending.
